Quite a few nyctophobiacs were playing the Fanatics quiz last night, with the regular selection of funny team names as always.

Titty Sprinkles were a team back from the dead, returning and smashing out an impressive 37 points...

Top three spots were separated by just three points, I'm A Shark, I'm A Shark, Suck My Dick, I'm A Shark just missing out.

Second place went to Urethra Franklins Hidden Pickle who scored 43 points...

With Jonny Bravo And His Sexy Busty Wenches...Oh Yeah, Whoop Whoop, Can I Get A Witness? winning on the evening with 44 points...

to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel and survive!

Annie Edson Taylor (October 24, 1838 – April 29, 1921) was an American adventurer who, on her 63rd birthday, October 24, 1901, became the first person to survive a trip over Niaga ra Falls in a barrel.

In October 1829, Sam Patch, who called himself "the Yankee Leapster", jumped from a high tower into the gorge below the falls and survived; this began a long tradition of daredevils trying to go over the falls. On October 24, 1901, 63-year-old Michigan school teacher Annie Edson Taylor was the first person to go over the falls in a barrel as a publicity stunt; she survived, bleeding, but virtually unharmed. Soon after exiting the barrel, she said, "No one ought ever do that again."Previous to Taylor's own attempt, on October 19 a domestic cat named Iagara was sent over the Horseshoe Falls in her barrel to test its strength. Contrary to rumours at the time, the cat survived the plunge unharmed and later was posed with Taylor in photographs. Since Taylor's historic ride, 14 other people have intentionally gone over the falls in or on a device, despite her advice. Some have survived unharmed, but others have drowned or been severely injured. Survivors of such stunts face charges and stiff fines, as it is illegal, on both sides of the border, to attempt to go over the falls.

Fanatics playas got a little quizzing and some robot boxing for their money on Wednesday night....now that is entertainment value!

Apparently this is an inside joke that Quizmaster HQ doesn't quite get! Fanatics finest understand, or so we're told!

Kevin B. was also back in the fray to quiz on the Third Ward's finest!

Two new teams got their Quiz on as Team Schlinke and The Magician's Alliance finished 6th and 5th respectively.

There were impressively high scores all round with first and second split by just one point.

Chomp My Gobstopper appeared from nowhere and finished with 57 points to take second.

Absolutely smashing top spot with 58 points was Will You SOPA My PIPA? who took home the big prize!

Nice work on the team photo! Quizmaster's thinking of introducing a "photo of the month" contest in the near future?! Watch this space!

Best known by his nickname "Machine Gun Kelly,"
he spent 17 years as an inmate at Alcatraz

George Kelley Barnes (July 18, 1895 – July 18, 1954), better known as "Machine Gun Kelly", was an American gangster during the prohibition era. His nickname came from his favorite weapon, a Thompson submachine gun. His most famous crime was the kidnapping of oil tycoon & businessman Charles Urschel in July 1933 for which he, and his gang, earned $200,000 ransom. The FBI investigation eventually led to Kelly's arrest in Memphis, Tennessee on September 26, 1933. His crimes also included bootlegging and armed robbery.

Machine Gun Kelly spent his remaining 21 years in prison. During his time at Alcatraz he got the nickname "Pop Gun Kelly." This was in reference, according to a former prisoner, to the fact that Kelly was a model prisoner and was nowhere near the tough, brutal gangster his wife made him out to be. He spent 17 years on Alcatraz, working in the prison industries, and was quietly transferred back to Leavenworth in 1951. He died of a heart attack at Leavenworth Federal Prison, Kansas on July 18, 1954, his 59th birthday. He is buried at Cottondale Texas Cemetery with a small headstone marked "George B. Kelley 1954".

Quiz night was back at Fanatics this Wednesday, and Quizmaster Kevin B. returned again to host, after another hiatus from quizzing duties over the Christmas break!

But back to the action...

They were of course referring to the "Taekwondo" picture question...

First, and therefore second place, went down to a tie break between three teams - Japs Bikes Are The Bomb, The Boners and Chris "Muscle Man" Bailey all went head to head to head....With Japs Bikes coming second in the end...

While veterans Chris "Muscle Man" Bailey guessed closest to win it on the night...

Eric Arthur Blair (25 June 1903 – 21 January 1950), better known by his pen name George Orwell, was an English author and journalist. Charles Elwood "Chuck" Yeager (born February 13, 1923) is a retired major general in the United States Air Force and noted test pilot. He was the first pilot to travel faster than sound (1947). Originally retiring in 1975 as a brigadier general, Yeager was promoted to major general on the Air Force's retired list in 2005 for his military achievements.

His career began in World War II as a private in the United States Army Air Forces. After serving as an aircraft mechanic, in September 1942 he entered enlisted pilot training and upon graduation was promoted to the rank of flight officer (the World War II USAAF equivalent to warrant officer) and became a North American P-51 Mustang fighter pilot. After the war he became a test pilot of many kinds of aircraft and rocket planes. Yeager was the first man to break the sound barrier on October 14, 1947, flying the experimental Bell X-1 at Mach 1 at an altitude of 45,000 ft (13,700 m). Although Scott Crossfield was the first man to fly faster than Mach 2 in 1953, Yeager shortly thereafter set a new record of Mach 2.44. He later commanded fighter squadrons and wings in Germany and in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, and in recognition of the outstanding performance ratings of those units he then was promoted to brigadier general. Yeager's flying career spans more than 60 years and has taken him to every corner of the globe, including the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War.

It was the final quiz of 2011 at Fanatics Sports Bar in Milwaukee on Wednesday night. And the usual suspects were in attendance to get their hands on some free booze once again.

And so it was no surprise again when The Boners took yet another win on quiz night to add to their impressive trivia haul during 2011...

We hope and expect to see them back in 2012!

In second place and th winner of the final $20 bar tab of the year was Your couch pulls out but I don't!

They had 37 points! Nice work gents!

And finally the best team name went to the picture-less Yes Mom, thats eggnogon my pants....

Since 1904, it dropped 77 feet each year!

The Times Square Ball is a time ball dropped each year during the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square, Manhattan, New York City. The ball is made by Waterford Crystal and electric lights is raised to the top of a pole on the One Times Square building at 6:00 pm and then lowered to mark the coming of the New Year. The ball descends 77 feet (23 m) over the course of a minute, coming to rest at the bottom of its pole at midnight, and a sign lights up with the digits of the new year, as the ball's lights turn off. Toshiba's Times Square advertising screen directly below the ball counts down to midnight as well alongside several other billboards in the area.

Every year up to one million people gather in Times Square to watch the ball drop, and an estimated 1 billion watch the video of the event, 100 million of them in the United States.

The first New Year's Eve celebration in the area was held in 1904. The New York Times newspaper had opened their new headquarters on Longacre Square (the city's second tallest building), and persuaded the city to rename the triangular "square" surrounding it for the newspaper. The newspaper's owner, Adolph Ochs, decided to celebrate the move with a midnight fireworks show on the building for New Year's Eve. Close to 200,000 attended the event, displacing celebrations held at Trinity Church. However, Adolph wanted a bigger spectacular at the building to draw more attention to the square — in 1907, the paper's chief electrician Walter F. Palmer constructed a lit ball that would be lowered from a flagpole at One Times Square. It was constructed with iron and wood, was lit with one hundred 25-watt bulbs, weighed 700 pounds (320 kg) and measured 5 feet (1.5 m) in diameter. At first, it dropped 1 second after midnight. Even after the Times moved its headquarters to 229 W. 43rd St., the celebration continued.

It's a Wonderful Life is a 1946 American Christmas drama film produced and directed by Frank Capra and based on the short story "The Greatest Gift" written by Philip Van Doren Stern.

The film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man whose imminent suicide on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers). Clarence shows George all the lives he has touched and the contributions he has made to his community.

Despite initially being considered a box office flop due to high production costs and stiff competition at the time of its release, the film has come to be regarded as a classic and a staple of Christmas television around the world. Theatrically, the film's break-even point was actually $6.3 million, approximately twice the production cost, a figure it never came close to achieving in its initial release. An appraisal in 2006 reported: "Although it was not the complete box-office failure that today everyone believes ... it was initially a major disappointment and confirmed, at least to the studios, that Capra was no longer capable of turning out the populist features that made his films the must-see, money-making events they once were."

It's a Wonderful Life was nominated for five Oscars without winning any, although the film has since been recognized by theAmerican Film Institute as one of the 100 best American films ever made, and placed number one on their list of the most inspirational American films of all time.

The Ford Model T (colloquially known as the Tin Lizzie, Flivver, T‑Model Ford, or T) is an automobile that was produced by Henry Ford's Ford Motor Company from September 1908 to May 1927.^[1] It is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile, the car that opened travel to the common middle-class American; some of this was because of Ford's innovations, including assembly line production instead of individual hand crafting. The Model T set 1908 as the historic year that the automobile became popular. The first production Model T was produced on August 12, 1908 and left the factory on September 27, 1908, at the Piquette Plant in Detroit, Michigan. On May 26, 1927, Henry Ford watched the 15 millionth Model T Ford roll off the assembly line at his factory in Highland Park, Michigan.

There were several cars produced or prototyped by Henry Ford from the founding of the company in 1903 until the Model T came along. The Blue Marble is a famous photograph of the Earth taken on December 7, 1972, by the crew of the Apollo 17 spacecraft at a distance of about 45,000 kilometres (28,000 mi).

The name also has been applied by NASA to a modern series of image data sets covering the entire globe at relatively high resolution, created by carefully sifting through satellite captured sequences taken over time, to eliminate as much cloud cover as possible from the collated set of images.

The snapshot — taken by astronauts on December 7, 1972, at 5:39 a.m. EST (10:39 UTC) — is likely one of the most widely distributed photographic images in existence. The image is one of the few to show a fully illuminated Earth, as the astronauts had the Sun behind them when they took the image. To the astronauts, Earth had the appearance of a glass marble (hence the name).

The photograph was taken about 5 hours and 6 minutes after launch of the Apollo 17 mission, and about 1 hour 54 minutes after the spacecraft left parking orbit around the Earth to begin its trajectory to the Moon. The time of Apollo 17's launch, 12:33 a.m. EST, meant that Africa was in daylight during the early hours of the spacecraft's flight. With the December solstice approaching, Antarctica also was illuminated.

Just a heads up: quiz night at Fanatics will be moving it's start time to 7:30pm as of Wednesday December 7th, 2011. Word on the street is that Quizmaster Kevin B. is real important and can't make it at 7pm, so Quizmaster and Fanatics (and the rest of the universe) is re-scheduling around him!

Quizmaster KB made his triumphant and long-awaited return to Fanatics and to his surprise the once long-haired, scruffy-faced bartender known as "Jared" was all clean-shaven and svelt! He wasn't complaining though!

A couple of new teams joined the fun with the Hoosiers and Wait This Is Like Golf Right? Low Score Wins?!? scoring 33 and 35 respectively.

Thanksgiving Day is a holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. Thanksgiving is celebrated each year on the second Monday of October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. Thanksgiving in Canada falls on the same day as Columbus Day in the United States. Because of the longstanding traditions of the holiday, the celebration often extends to the weekend that falls closest to the day it is celebrated.

Thanksgiving in North America had originated from a mix of European and Native traditions. Typically in Europe, festivals were held before and after the harvest cycles to give thanks for a good harvest, and to rejoice together after much hard work with the rest of the community. At the time, Native Americans had also celebrated the end of a harvest season. When Europeans first arrived to the Americas, they brought with them their own harvest festival traditions from Europe, celebrating their safe voyage, peace and good harvest. Though the origins of the holiday in both Canada and the United States are similar, Americans do not typically celebrate the contributions made in Newfoundland, while Canadians do not celebrate the contributions made in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

In the West African country of Liberia, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the first Thursday of November. It's the only country in Africa to celebrate the holiday.

The Abraj Al-Bait Towers, also known as the Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower, is a building complex in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The complex holds several world records, including the tallest hotel in the world, the tallest clock tower in the world, the world's largest clock face, and the world's largest building floor area. The complex's hotel tower will become the second tallest building in the world upon its completion in 2011, surpassed only by Dubai's Burj Khalifa. The building complex is meters away from the world's largest mosque and Islam's most sacred site, the Masjid al Haram. The developer and contractor of the complex is the Saudi Binladin Group, the Kingdom's largest construction company.

The hotel tower is topped by a four-faced clock, visible from more than 25 kilometres (16 miles) away, which is the largest clock in the world. The clock will dwarf London's Big Ben, once the largest four-faced clock in the world, as well as the current title holder, the Allen-Bradley Clock Tower in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The dials are more than five times greater in area. The clock's face is also bigger than the current world champion at the Cevahir Mall clock in Istanbul, which has a 36-metre (118-foot) face with 3-metre-high (9.8-foot) digits set in the transparent roof of the shopping complex.

Each of the clock's four faces is 46 metres (151 feet) in diameter and will be illuminated by 2 million LED lights, alongside huge Arabic script reading: “Allah is the Greatest”. Another 21,000 white and green colored lights, fitted at the top of the clock, will flash to signal Islam's five-times daily prayers, and will be visible as far as 29 kilometres (18 miles) away. On special occasions, 16 bands of vertical lights will shoot some 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) up into the sky. The clock's four faces will be covered with 98 million pieces of glass mosaics. The Saudi coat of arms is displayed at the center of each clock behind the dials.

Phillip Harvey "Phil" Spector (born Harvey Phillip Spector on December 26, 1939) is an American record producer and songwriter, later known for his conviction in the murder of actress Lana Clarkson.

The originator of the "Wall of Sound" production technique, Spector was a pioneer of the 1960s girl-group sound and produced over 25 Top 40 hits in 1960–1965. After this initial success, Spector later worked with artists including Ike and Tina Turner, John Lennon, George Harrison, and the Ramones with similar acclaim. He produced The Beatles' Academy Award winning album Let It Be, and the Grammy Award–winning Concert for Bangladesh by former Beatle George Harrison. In 1989, Spector was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a non-performer. The 1965 song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", produced and co-written by Spector for The Righteous Brothers, is listed by BMI as the song with the most U.S. airplay in the 20th century.

The 2003 shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson in his Alhambra, California home led to his 2009 conviction of murder in the second degree. He is serving a prison sentence of 19 years to life.

Just another heads up that Quizmaster Cup VI is next Sunday November 13th, and spots are limited! Register now to reserve your team's table!...

Another Wednesday night brought another night of quizzin' at Fantics this week, with a rousing night on the cards!

Seven teams - some 31 players - were involved, including many familiar faces as well as a few new ones! And Fanatics announced a new Wednesday night special on the evening - $10 for a pizza and pitcher of beer! Sounds YUM!

And while last week's winners, and the current team to beat, The Boners being in the house, it was surely their quiz to loose!

But alas, they could only settle for third place in the end as Team Mighty Mouse took top honors in the end with 41 points!

Second place ended up being a duel between The Boners and Bring back Jared's hair who tied on 37 points! In the end the latter took a rare double prize - taking second place and the people's prize for best team name...

Two prizes! We bet the shenanigans of ThizGirl has something to do with that!

Little Big Man is a 1970 American Western film directed by Arthur Penn and based on the 1964 comic novel by Thomas Berger. It is a picaresque comedy about a Caucasian boy raised by the Cheyenne nation during the 19th century. The film is largely concerned with contrasting the lives of American pioneers and Native Americans throughout the progression of the boy's life.

The movie stars Dustin Hoffman, Chief Dan George, Faye Dunaway, Martin Balsam, Jeff Corey and Richard Mulligan. It is considered a revisionist Western, with Native Americans receiving a more sympathetic treatment and United States Cavalry soldiers depicted as villains.

Hoffman holds the record for portraying the greatest age span of a single character, playing Jack Crabb from the age of 17 to 121, a difference of 104 years. To obtain the hoarse voice of a 121-year-old man, Hoffman sat in his dressing room and screamed at the top of his lungs for an hour. The makeup for the ancient Crabb was created by Dick Smith from foam latex and included revolutionary false eyelids that could blink along with the actor's. Due to editing, and much to Smith's chagrin, no blinks were visible in the finished film. Of the makeup, Hoffman was quoted in Life as saying, "I defy you to put on that makeup and not feel old". The role of Chief Old Lodge Skins was initially offered to Marlon Brando, Paul Scofield and Laurence Olivier, all of whom turned it down. The Little Bighorn battle scenes were filmed on location in Montana near the actual battle site.

Quiz nite returned to Fanatics again this Wednesday night; a night when World Series baseball was supposed to be on the massive tele but mother nature was having none of it! So queeps settled just for trivia, with three closely contesting, and another just way ahead of the competition...

Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel (15 November 1891 – 14 October 1944), popularly known as the Desert Fox (Wüstenfuchs), was a German Field Marshal of World War II. He won the respect of both his own troops and the enemies he fought.

He was a highly decorated officer in World War I, and was awarded the Pour le Mérite for his exploits on the Italian front. In World War II, he further distinguished himself as the commander of the 7th Panzer Division during the 1940 invasion of France. However, it was his leadership of German and Italian forces in the North African campaign that established the legend of the Desert Fox. He is considered to have been one of the most skilled commanders of desert warfare in the war. He later commanded the German forces opposing the Allied cross-channel invasion in Normandy.

As one of the few generals who consistently fought the Western Allies (he was never assigned to the Eastern Front), Rommel is regarded as having been a humane and professional officer. His Afrikakorps was never accused of war crimes. Soldiers captured during his Africa campaign were reported to have been treated humanely. Furthermore, he ignored orders to kill captured commandos, Jewish soldiers and civilians in all theaters of his command.

Late in the war, Rommel was linked to the conspiracy to kill Adolf Hitler. Because Rommel was widely renowned, Hitler chose to eliminate him quietly; in trade for assurances his family would be spared, Rommel agreed to commit suicide.

This Wednesday night at Fanatics Sports Central our quiz patrons participated strongly even though the Brewers were out of the series :(

Quiz night was back following a two-week hiatus due to postseason baseball! And queeps were up for it...

All in all most teams did well with excellent guesses on some of our toughest questions, but ultimately in first place and winner of the 30 dollar bar tab was Violet Beauregarde with 44 Points...

Second place was awarded to Fanatics trivia stalwarts The Boners with a tally of 39 points...

Franz Ferdinand (18 December 1863 – 28 June 1914) was an Archduke of Austria-Este, Austro-Hungarian and Royal Prince of Hungary and of Bohemia, and from 1889 until his death, heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne. His assassination in Sarajevo precipitated Austria-Hungary's declaration of war against Serbia. This caused the Central Powers (including Germany and Austria-Hungary) and the Allies of World War I (countries allied with Serbia) to declare war on each other, starting World War I.

He was born in Graz, Austria, the eldest son of Archduke Karl Ludwig of Austria (younger brother of Franz Joseph and Maximilian) and of his second wife, Princess Maria Annunciata of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. When he was only twelve years old, his cousin Duke Francis V of Modena died, naming Franz Ferdinand his heir on condition that he add the name Este to his own. Franz Ferdinand thus became one of the wealthiest men in Austria.

Easter Island (Rapa Nui: Rapa Nui, Spanish: Isla de Pascua) is a Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, at the southeasternmost point of the Polynesian triangle. Giles Corey (also spelled Cory or Coree, c. 1611 – September 19, 1692) was a prosperous farmer and full member of the church in early colonial America who died under judicial torture during the Salem witch trials. Corey refused to enter a plea, and was crushed to death by stone weights in an attempt to force him to do so. In April 1692, he was accused by Ann Putnam, Jr., Mercy Lewis, and Abigail Williams of witchcraft. Ann Putnam Jr claimed that on April 13, the specter of Giles Corey visited her and asked her to write in the Devil's book. Later, Putnam also claimed that a ghost appeared before her to announce that it had been murdered by Corey. Other girls were to describe Corey as "a dreadful wizard" and recount stories of assaults by his specter. Corey's last words were "more weight."

Giles Corey was arrested on April 18, 1692, along with Mary Warren, Abigail Hobbs, and Bridget Bishop. The following day, they were examined by the authorities, during which Abigail Hobbs confessed to Giles being a warlock.

Corey refused to plead (guilty or not guilty), was committed to jail and subsequently arraigned at the September sitting of the court.

According to the law at the time, a person who refused to plead could not be tried. To avoid persons cheating justice, the legal remedy for refusing to plead was "peine forte et dure". In this process the prisoner is stripped naked, with a heavy board laid on their body. Then rocks or boulders are laid on the plank of wood. This was the process of being pressed.

Ice skating's axel jump is
named for the Norweigian

Axel Paulsen (1855-1938) was a Norwegian figure skater and speed skater. He is the inventor of the figure skating Axel jump.

Paulsen first publicly executed the Axel jump in 1882 at the World Championships in Vienna while wearing speed skates. At the Vienna World Championships Paulsen won both the speed skating and fancy (figure) skating events becoming the World Champion.

In the winter of 1883 Paulsen went to North America to participate in a series of skating events. On February 8, 1883 a race was held at the open air rink in Washington Park, Brooklyn, New York. Paulsen defeated 17 picked skaters, the fastest from Norway, Canada, England and the United States and set the following records at the race:

1 mile: 3 minutes, 34 3/5 seconds
5 miles: 19 minutes, 10 seconds
10 miles: 39 minutes, 7 3/5 seconds

Paulsen was a professional skater competing in races and meets that offered the winners prize purses and metals; he was the World Professional Speed Skating Champion from 1882 to 1889. He lost the title on February 1, 1890 to Canadian professional speed skating champion Hugh J. McCormick at a 3-race meet in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

This week at Fanatics Sports Central our quiz patrons were introduced to their new Quizmaster, Mr. Tommy Sharrett. With a change in Quizmaster's in recent weeks (due to the soccer sabbatical of regular Quizmaster Kevin B.) Tommy will now be the semi-permanent host until Kevin returns in October.

After a slight delay due to some "technical difficulties" the show went on and first Place with 47 points was I fell asleep 3 times before the music round, who walked away with the $30 tab!

In second place with 44 points was Im Glad I can use my college education!, while usual top of the table contenders You fucked up you trusted us were languishing in lower half of the standings....

A stock photo from the Quizmaster archives was necessary as the new Quizmaster didn't take any photos!

Dedicated to the Greek Goddess Athena

The Parthenon is a temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron. Its construction began in 447 BC and was completed in 438 BC, although decorations of the Parthenon continued until 432 BC. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece and of Athenian democracy and one of the world's greatest cultural monuments.

The Parthenon itself replaced an older temple of Athena, which historians call the Pre-Parthenon or Older Parthenon, that was destroyed in the Persian invasion of 480 BC. Like most Greek temples, the Parthenon was used as a treasury. For a time, it served as the treasury of the Delian League, which later became the Athenian Empire. In the 5th century AD, the Parthenon was converted into a Christian church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

After the Ottoman Turk conquest, it was turned into a mosque in the early 1460s, and it had a minaret built in it. On 26 September 1687, an Ottoman Turk ammunition dump inside the building was ignited by Venetian bombardment. The resulting explosion severely damaged the Parthenon and its sculptures. In 1806, Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin removed some of the surviving sculptures, with the Ottoman Turks' permission. These sculptures, now known as the Elgin Marbles or the Parthenon Marbles, were sold in 1816 to the British Museum in London, where they are now displayed. Top dogs on the evening was You fucked up you trusted us with a banging 51 points!...

The team of eight were rewarded with a $30 bar tab for first, decent work!

Trailing just behind with 49 points was Michael Jackson Beat it unlike Ryan Braun who found inspiration for their team name following a MJ question and Brewer's Braun hitting the deck in the game against the Cardinals...

A $20 bar tab was all theirs.

K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth, after Mount Everest. With a peak elevation of 8,611 m (28,251 feet), K2 is part of the Karakoram Range, and is located on the border^[2] between Baltistan, in Gilgit-Baltistan of Pakistan-administered Kashmir and the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang, China. It is more hazardous to reach K2 from the Chinese side; thus, it is mostly climbed from the Pakistani side.

K2 is known as the Savage Mountain due to the difficulty of ascent and the second-highest fatality rate among the "eight thousanders" for those who climb it. For every four people who have reached the summit, one has died trying. Unlike Annapurna, the mountain with the highest fatality rate, K2 has never been climbed in winter.

Bösendorfer (L. Bösendorfer Klavierfabrik GmbH) is an Austrian piano manufacturer, now a wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha. It was a smart night at trivia at Fanatics last Tuesday as 5 out of 7 teams would score 41 points or better, with QM Kevin again stepping in for QM Kev B. On the top of the table, with 45 out of 50 points on the night, it was Is that a flashlight in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

Was born in Brooklyn in 1899

Alphonse Gabriel "Al" Capone (January 17, 1899 – January 25, 1947) was an American gangster who led a Prohibition-era crime syndicate. The Chicago Outfit, which subsequently became known as the "Capones", was dedicated to smuggling and bootlegging liquor, and other illegal activities such as prostitution, in Chicago from the early 1920s to 1931.

Born in Brooklyn, New York to Italian immigrants, Capone became involved with gang activity at a young age after being expelled from school at age 14. In his early twenties, he moved to Chicago to take advantage of a new opportunity to make money smuggling illegal alcoholic beverages into the city during Prohibition. He also engaged in various other criminal activities, including bribery of government figures and prostitution. Despite his illegitimate occupation, Capone became a highly visible public figure. He made various charitable endeavors using the money he made from his activities, and was viewed by many to be a "modern-day Robin Hood".

Capone was publicly criticized for his involvement in the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre, when seven rival gang members were executed. Capone was convicted on federal charges of tax evasion, and sentenced to federal prison. His incarceration included a term at the new Alcatraz federal prison. In the final years of Capone's life, he suffered mental and physical deterioration due to late-stage neurosyphilis, which he had contracted as a youth. On January 25, 1947, he died from cardiac arrest after suffering a stroke.

Aargh! Me quiz hearties be invited to peer into the depths of Lake Michigan aboard the 1st annual Quizmaster Pirate Cruise. Mateys be signin' up now, with only room for 150 pirates....

Quizmaster Sam stepped in at Fanatics this week as Kevin had other business to attend to. It was a reminiscent quiz as Fanatics Sports Central was where Sam begun his Quizmaster career in September 2010 as a very jittery and nervous trivia host who was clearly brand new to the circuit.

However it was a lot different this time round as it's almost been an entire year of quizzing in Mil-town and we had a cracking show on the night.

Eight teams composing of 32 players gathered to compete for 1st and 2nd place prizes with the show kicking off at 7pm sharp.

Winners this week was You Fucked Up, You Trusted Us with a banging 45 points...

They took a $30 bar tab for the win! Woo hoo!

Second place went to sudden death and ultimately Katy Perry's Cranium is the last thing on my mind sealed the deal with their answer being just one away from the actual answer...

Good job to you people, very impressive! Almost as impressive as those delightful set of jugs that Katy Perry has... Russell Brand we envy you. They won a $20 bar tab!

Florence Nightingale OM, RRC (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910) was a celebrated English nurse, writer and statistician. An Anglican, Nightingale believed that God had called her to be a nurse. She came to prominence for her pioneering work in nursing during the Crimean War, where she tended to wounded soldiers. She was dubbed "The Lady with the Lamp" after her habit of making rounds at night.

Florence Nightingale's most famous contribution came during the Crimean War, which became her central focus when reports began to filter back to Britain about the horrific conditions for the wounded. On 21 October 1854, she and a staff of 38 women volunteer nurses, trained by Nightingale and including her aunt Mai Smith, were sent (under the authorisation of Sidney Herbert) to the Ottoman Empire, about 295 nautical miles (546 km; 339 mi) across the Black Sea from Balaklava in the Crimea, where the main British camp was based.

Nightingale arrived early in November 1854 at Selimiye Barracks in Scutari (modern-day Üsküdar in Istanbul). She and her nurses found wounded soldiers being badly cared for by overworked medical staff in the face of official indifference. Medicines were in short supply, hygiene was being neglected, and mass infections were common, many of them fatal. There was no equipment to process food for the patients.

Nightingale laid the foundation of professional nursing with the establishment, in 1860, of her nursing school at St Thomas' Hospital in London, the first secular nursing school in the world, now part of King's College London. The Nightingale Pledge taken by new nurses was named in her honour, and the annual International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on her birthday.

Bizzaro Kevin night!

It was a rainy Wednesday evening at Fanatics that felt more like Miami than Milwaukee with all of the humidity and the lightning show downtown in the third ward. And things were heating up inside as well, as more than half of the trivia teams scored 42 points or higher.

On top of the table for the night was British Kevin is out with a case of gonhorrea with their score of 47 out of a possible 50 points...

And we'll check that report with Kevin B to see if it's accurate!

Second place would have resulted in sudden death had The Boners played with only 8, but alas, they were forced to take the two point deduction leaving them out of the race for the prizes. But, Augustus Gloop didn't mind, as it left them as the only team with 45 points, ensuring their $20 prize win...

As for the best team name on the night, it was not even close as Bizzaro Kevin straight up scares me! easily took the Best Team Name prize with the best laugh from the audience...

Charles Augustus Lindbergh (February 4, 1902 – August 26, 1974) was an American aviator, author, inventor, explorer, and social activist.

Lindbergh, a 25-year-old U.S. Air Mail pilot, emerged from virtual obscurity to almost instantaneous world fame as the result of his Orteig Prize-winning solo non-stop flight on May 20–21, 1927, from Roosevelt Field located in Garden City on New York's Long Island to Le Bourget Field in Paris, France, a distance of nearly 3,600 statute miles (5,800 km), in the single-seat, single-engine monoplane Spirit of St. Louis. Lindbergh, a U.S. Army reserve officer, was also awarded the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his historic exploit.

In March 1932, however, his infant son, Charles, Jr., was kidnapped and murdered in what was soon dubbed the "Crime of the Century" which eventually led to the Lindbergh family fleeing the United States in December 1935 to live in Europe where they remained until the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor by the Imperial Japanese Navy. Blowing Chunks on the League Final!

Seven teams battled it out as the league wrapped up at Fanatics this Wednesday night....while one team decided to paint the sidewalk with their own version of a Jackson Pollock!

We had a new team join the quiz madness, Hope's Nipple, who scored 40 points....

Now that's something we think we'd all like to see.

Also on 40 points were Ian's Underachievers - but would this score affect their run at second place in the league....?

Fang of the Leprechaun were back scoring 43 points, just behind I Got The Answers From A News Of The World Wiretap On The Quizmasters Phone as the one man team racked up 47 points.

In the end the weekly placing reflected the the way the league panned out as I'm Bushier Than Brian Wilsons Beard scored 51 points which just did enough to push them into second spot for the league!

Winning on the evening and in the league was quiz juggernaut Violet B who bashed out 55 points and won the league at a canter!

The small country in Asia measures happiness!

Bhutan is a landlocked state in South Asia, located at the eastern end of the Himalayas and bordered to the south, east and west by the Republic of India and to the north by the People's Republic of China.

The state religion is Vajrayana Buddhism, and the population of 691,141 is predominantly Buddhist, with Hinduism the second-largest religion. The capital and largest city is Thimphu.

Bhutan is separated from the nearby country of Nepal to the west by the Indian state of Sikkim, and from Bangladesh to the south by West Bengal. Bhutan existed as a patchwork of minor warring fiefdoms until the early 17th century, when the area was unified by the Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, who was guided by a prophecy, fled religious persecution in Tibet and cultivated a separate Bhutanese identity. In the early 20th century, Bhutan came into contact with the British Empire, after which Bhutan continued strong bilateral relation with India upon its independence. Just a quick reminder: there will be no quiz next Wednesday June 29th and the following Wednesday July 6th due to Summerfest. The quiz will resume the following week, Wednesday July 13th, with the league finale!

The medication QM Kev B was on bought his true feelings to the fore as he once again mis-read DiCaprio for Da Vinci at the Fanatics quiz this Wednesday....we're sure the inventor/painter would be turning in his grave!

The usual high level of comedy team names was kept going, starting with Lucy Pinder? I Just Met Her! who finished on 31 points (honestly lads, shes well worth a Google) and Kevin's Gonorrhea Is Cured, But Now He's Got DiCaprio On The Brain who scored 39 points, leaving them in 4th spot.

Third position was tied between John Denver Flight Academy and Roofio, Roofio, Roof-E-OOOOO! who both finished on 42 points....great team names but not quite the winner.

Goldfinger (1964) is the third spy film in the James Bond series, and the third to star Sean Connery as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. It is based on the novel of the same name by Ian Fleming. Cluedo (Clue in North America) is a popular murder/mystery-themed deduction board game originally published by Waddingtons in Leeds, England in 1949. It was devised by Anthony E. Pratt, a solicitor's clerk from Birmingham, England. It is now published by the United States game and toy company Hasbro, which acquired its U.S. publisher Parker Brothers as well as Waddingtons.

The object of the basic game is for players to strategically move around the game board (a mansion), in the guise of one of the game's six characters, collecting clues from which to deduce which suspect murdered the game's perpetual victim: Dr. Black (Mr. Boddy in North American versions), and with which weapon and in what room.

Several games, books, and a film have been released as part of the Cluedo franchise. The board games form an overall story whose complete chronology can be found at Cluedo chronology. More recent editions have restored the name, Tudor Mansion to the mansion, and say the mansion is located in Hampshire, England in the year 1926.

Won gold medals in fencing in an
unprecedented six Olympic Games

Aladár Gerevich (16 March 1910 in Jászberény – 14 May 1991 in Budapest) was a fencer from Hungary, regarded as "the greatest Olympic swordsman ever". He won medals in sabre in six Olympics. With Birgit Fischer, Gerevich was one of only two athletes to do so. He is also the only athlete to win the same event six times (despite two games passed because of the Second World War). The War could not interfere with perhaps his most impressive record, however; he won gold medals in 1932 and 1960, an unprecedented 28 years apart.

Gerevich's wife, Erna Bogen (also known as Erna Bogathy), his son, Pal Gerevich, and his father-in-law, Albert Bogen, all received Olympic medals in fencing.

In the Hungarian Olympic trials for the 1960 Rome Olympics, the fencing committee told Gerevich that he was too old to compete. He silenced them by challenging the entire sabre team to individual matches and winning every match. He missed the finals of the 1960 Olympic individual sabre event, and a possible individual gold medal, by a single touch. He died in Budapest.

The Leprechaun Ladies returned with 32 points, just behind Imogen Thomas How Big Is Giggs and The Cab Driver From The Fresh Prince who both tied on 35 points.

Big Trouble In Little Carries Vagina finished in 'third' with 36 points, meaning that the top 10 teams were separated by just SIX POINTS!

All finishing on 38 points were Violet B, I Raptured In My Pants, List Of Funny Words Kevin Says, You Fu*ked Up and Rumchata The Fuck Up! The question to break up this orgy of parity was "How many ridges are there on a Half Dollar?" After an emotional 45 second wait List of Funny Words Kevin Says guessed second closest with 175.....

And Violet B guessed 160 to claim the top prize!...

We had two quiz 'firsts' at Fanatics this Wednesday hump day in Milwaukee. A pair of teams both gave themselves identical team names and we had a marriage proposal! QM Kev B almost lost his voice in all the emotional excitement.

We had a new team join the quiz fun late on and scored an impressive 24 points, not bad team Ramrod.

The newly named Suck It crew took an understandable disliking to Zac Efron as they scored 36 points, just behind I'm Arnolds Kid, Can't You Tell? who finished 7th.

Don't Hate The Terminator Chances Are He Banged Your Mom Too! finished 6th with Nicole Kosner Will You Marry Me? just ahead on 41 points......but the question on everyones lips is did she say yes?!? Of course she did, have you seen how dreamy Jason's eyes are?

The Titanic Swim Team got their quiz on for the first time and almost muscled their way into the money positions....

Halley's Comet or Comet Halley (officially designated 1P/Halley)^[ is the best-known of the short-period comets, and is visible from Earth every 75 to 76 years. Halley is the only short-period comet that is clearly visible to the naked eye from Earth, and thus the only naked-eye comet that might appear twice in a human lifetime.^[ Other naked-eye comets may be brighter and more spectacular, but will appear only once in thousands of years.

Halley's returns to the inner solar system have been observed and recorded by astronomers since at least 240 BC, and perhaps as early as 466 BC. Founded by former President Theodore Roosevelt,
it became best known as the Bull Moose Party

The Progressive Party of 1912 was an American political party. It was formed after a split in the Republican Party between President William Howard Taft and former President Theodore Roosevelt.

The party also became known as the Bull Moose Party when former President Roosevelt boasted "I'm fit as a bull moose," after being shot in an assassination attempt prior to his 1912 campaign speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Inspiration for the party's beginnings may have come from Roosevelt's friend and supporter, U.S. Senator Thomas Kearns of Utah, who in October of 1906 broke off from the Republican Party and started the American Party in that state. This was a direct response to LDS Church leadership influence on the Senatorial elections between 1902 to 1905.

Roosevelt retired as President in 1908. He had selected Taft, his Secretary of War to succeed him, and Taft easily won the 1908 presidential election. Roosevelt became disappointed by Taft's increasingly conservative policies. Taft alienated Roosevelt when he moved to break up U.S. Steel through the use of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. During his own presidency, Roosevelt had approved J.P. Morgan-owned U.S. Steel as a "good" trust ^[2] By 1912, the two were openly hostile, and Roosevelt decided to seek the presidency.

Taft was already being challenged by Senator Robert La Follette of Wisconsin, but Roosevelt jumped in late (much to La Follette's annoyance).

Roosevelt far outpolled Taft in the primaries. But Taft controlled the party organization and the convention, which renominated him in June.^[3] Before the final vote, Roosevelt had said he would accept nomination from a new "honestly elected" convention. He ordered his delegates to abstain from voting in rebuke of Taft's "steamroller tactics". The next day, they met to form a new party.

Nine teams rolled down to Fanatics to battle it out for our weekly prizes and also the culmination of the League Finale this Wednesday evening.

Almost the funniest and definitely the longest team name went to "Suck it tenderly, but with purpose, like a calf reaching for its mother for first morning's milk; suck it dangerously, like a thief stealing gas". Shakespeare himself couldn't have said it better and with more innuendo.

Newbies 3 Fingers Deep got involved and finished in 8th position, just behind Rough Night For Fang of The Leprechaun who finished in 7th with 31 points.

If You're Not Manc You're Wank finished in 5th spot with perhaps the most incorrect team name of all time.

Fourth place went to Lady Gaga's Gherkin Could Take The Muppets Any Day with 42 points, as Violet Beauregarde just pipping them to 3rd with 44 points...

Would this score have a bearing on the league shakedown....

Osama Got A Facial returned with more members and spidermanned their way to second place with 45 points...

Winning on the night was You Fucked Up You Trusted Us who crushed it with 49 points....

But would this be enough to help them climb to the top of the league table at the final hurdle?

The Great Wall of China is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in northern China, built originally to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire against intrusions by various nomadic groups. Many of the fanatics teams fell back on their default "Man Utd" answer to a slightly taxing soccer question this Wednesday trivia night at Fanatics....Wrong! They should have gone for the real peoples champions (as Quizmaster Kevin B. would say); the Mighty Liverpool FC!

Two new teams got balls deep into some quiz action, and one of them even elbowed their way into the money prizes!

The other newbie team, Cooper, did well for their first quiz considering there was only two of them...

Spkie and The Mad Mad Man had played the game once before at Replay and joined the Fanatics fun, scoring 35 points, just behind Fozzies Got An Itch And It Aint A Mosquito Bite who racked up 39 points.

The Fang Of The Leprechaun guys had a moment of self-realization while Lionel Made A Messi All Over Cristiano's Ronaldo nearly won the weekly funniest team name prize.

Third spot was a tie between You Fucked Up, You Trusted Us and eventual funniest team name winners Hitler's Bitch Love Israel...

Brilliantly random ladies!

It was close at the top with quiz first-timers DIPSEA coming second, scoring 50 points...

The Great Fire of London was a major conflagration that swept through the central parts of the English city of London, from Sunday, 2 September to Wednesday, 5 September 1666. The fire gutted the medieval City of London inside the old Roman City Wall. It threatened, but did not reach, the aristocratic district of Westminster, Charles II's Palace of Whitehall, and most of the suburban slums. It consumed 13,200 houses, 87 parish churches, St. Paul's Cathedral, and most of the buildings of the City authorities. It is estimated that it destroyed the homes of 70,000 of the City's 80,000 inhabitants. The death toll from the fire is unknown and is traditionally thought to have been small, as only six verified deaths were recorded. This reasoning has recently been challenged on the grounds that the deaths of poor and middle-class people were not recorded anywhere, and that the heat of the fire may have cremated many victims, leaving no recognisable remains.

The Great Fire started at the bakery of Thomas Farriner (or Farynor) on Pudding Lane, shortly after midnight on Sunday, 2 September, and it spread rapidly west across the City of London. The use of the major firefighting technique of the time, the creation of firebreaks by means of demolition, was critically delayed owing to the indecisiveness of the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Thomas Bloodworth. By the time large-scale demolitions were ordered on Sunday night, the wind had already fanned the bakery fire into a firestorm which defeated such measures. The fire pushed north on Monday into the heart of the City. Order in the streets broke down as rumours arose of suspicious foreigners setting fires.

The royal team name bashing begins with I Guess Those Big Goofy Ears Are What You Get When You Scrape The Bottom Of The Gene Pool who finished with 35 points and Prince Charles Was A Cubs Fan?...Knew I Hated The British.

There is no chance he was a bloody Cubs fan!

Bette Davis Has Steve Buscemi Eyes finished on 36 points, nice tip of the hat to a Kim Carnes classic.

Ain't Nobody Throwing You No Shade, Greg placed in 5th position and gave us another eloquent soundbite from perhaps the most high brow cutting edge television series that Atlanta could possibly offer.

It was tight at the business end of things (giggidy) as You Fucked Up just missed out on the prizes finishing third on 43 points. The boys from Prince Charles was a Samurai? switched ends in the standings and claimed second spot....

to have his number retired

Frederick Lionel Hitchman (November 3, 1901 in Toronto, Ontario – December 19, 1968) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played 12 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins.

After playing two seasons of senior league hockey in Ottawa with the Ottawa New Edinburghs while serving in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Hitchman was signed by the Senators in 1922. He played three seasons for the Senators, and was on a Stanley Cup winner when the Senators defeated the Edmonton Eskimos in 1923, becoming notable for his hardrock defence style.

Midseason in 1925, Hitchman's rights were purchased by the first-year Boston Bruins. He was named the team's first captain in 1927, anchoring the team's defence. He played ten years in all with Boston, much of it as Eddie Shore's defence partner, and was on a second Stanley Cup winner in 1929 with the Bruins.

Hitchman retired with 27 goals and 33 assists in 414 career NHL games. He also recorded 523 penalty minutes, the NHL career record at the time.

As the first captain of the Boston Bruins, his player number 3 was retired.

The Fanatics quiz family waved goodbye to one of it's stalwarts last night as Boner Brad (that's not an insult, that's his team name) trotted off into the Texan sunset. Don't forget your snow boots big man, I hear it gets chilly down there....

A tough set of questions kept everyone on their toes and it showed in the scores as just 6 points was the difference between 8 teams.

David Letterman's Platipussy is some Risky Business started the funny team names off with a bang -- I like it guys. Continuing the comedy and in 6th position with 37 points we had I'm Actually Into "Casual" Sex, Maybe You Should Take Off Your Bowtie... well but as you asked so nicely...

In fifth spot with 38 points were The Sausage Connoisseurs. Talking of which, you guys should try my Spotted Dick, it's mouthwateringly good (calm down, it's an English delicacy, google it).

The Boner collective were out in full effect for Brads farewell and how apt that they should both finish tied on 39 points and both have names dedicated to the man himself: Everything's Bigger in Texas...Besides Brads Boner and Brad Isn't Moving To Texas For Work He's Moving Cos He Thinks He'll Be Better At Trivia There. It was good quizzing with ya mate...

Just missing out on the money prizes with 40 points was I Sound Like Ron Weasley, which is better than looking like him.

Nudging ahead on 41 points was Violet Beauregard who took second...

And winning first place on the evening was You Fucked Up, You Trusted Us who finished on 43 points...

Julio José Iglesias de la Cueva (born September 23, 1943), better known simply as Julio Iglesias, is a Spanish singer who has sold over 300 million records worldwide in 14 languages and released 77 albums. According to Sony Music Entertainment, he is one of the top 10 best selling music artists in history. While Iglesias rose to international prominence in the 1970s and 1980s as a performer of romantic ballads, his success has continued on as he entered new musical endeavors.

Iglesias was born Julio José Iglesias de la Cueva in Madrid, the eldest son of Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga (a gynecologist) and Maria del Rosario de la Cueva y Perignat. Iglesias' father's family was from Galicia, and Iglesias' mother, who was from Andalusia. He has claimed during a concert in Israel that his mother was Jewish, although he has no known jewish heritage on his mother's side, his maternal grandfather being a well-known Andalusian journalist. He has a younger brother, Carlos.

In the 1960s, he studied law in Madrid and was a goalkeeper for one of Real Madrid's football team. On September 22, 1963, he was involved in a car crash, resulting in an injury to his spinal cord. He said, "I had a car accident; [a] very, very strange car accident...I lost control of the car and rolled it, resulting in what they call 'paraparexia,' which is not a paraplegi[a]. It's a compression in the [spinal] cord, in the sense of the neck...my spinal cord; and I was very, very ill for three years." His doctors thought he would never walk again; indeed, his legs were left permanently weakened, and they continued to require therapy as of late October 2010. However, slowly, he began recovering his health. To develop and increase the dexterity of his hands, he began playing guitar. When he recovered from his accident, he resumed academic studies and traveled to the United Kingdom to study the English language, first in Ramsgate, then at Bell Educational Trust's Language School in Cambridge.

Once again it was the question relating to everyone's favorite sport that tripped up every team at fanatics this Wednesday trivia night. Yep, the northern English town of Blackburn was once a mighty English Premier League champion, not just a crap hole full of Pikies!

Two new teams got their Quiz on last night, Kyle and The Quiz Talkin' Divas bought perhaps the most nervous/excitable member we've ever met and Team ZMB who impressively finished just outside the money prizes. Not too shabby guys!

Teachers & their Pets were back for their second time - finishing tied third and rapidly proving that they are in fact smarter than they look.

The regular repertoire of funny team names was on show, with The Difference Between Jam and Jelly boys teaching us the American-English version of classic joke! (We call it marmalade, you call it jelly, but either way, you can only jam it in there).

Another tip of the comedy hat went to NFL Europe? Don't You Mean Fucking Quidditch? closely followed by I Sound Like Harry Potter. Touche guys.

First place went down to the wire (again!) with You fucked up, You trusted us (below) and Violet B both finishing on 41 points....

The tie-breaker question gave us a winner with Violet B guessing closest and taking the big bucks!...

Funniest team name went to The Bloods, The Crips & The Latin Kings: Americas Favorite 50's du-wop groups...

Inspiration for the movie Field of Dreams

Shoeless Joe is a magic realist novel by W. P. Kinsella. It became much better known because of its film adaptation, Field of Dreams.

Ray Kinsella lives and farms in Iowa where he grows corn with his wife Annie and their five-year-old daughter Karin. Kinsella is obsessed with the beauty and history of American baseball, specifically the plight of his hero, Shoeless Joe Jackson, and the Black Sox Scandal of the 1919 World Series. When he hears a voice telling him to build a baseball field in the midst of his corn crop in order to give his hero a chance at redemption, he blindly follows instructions. The field becomes a conduit to the spirits of baseball legends.

Soon, Kinsella is off on a cross-country trip to ease the pain of another hero, the reclusive writer J. D. Salinger, as part of a journey the Philadelphia Inquirer called "not so much about baseball as it's about dreams, magic, life, and what is quintessentially American."
